Fanon interpretations you like
« on: November 01, 2023, 10:13:30 PM »
As we all know the fandom portrays our beloved 2hus and the series in general in a much more different light than the way it's portrayed in official material. So, what is your favourite fanon version of a character that you like?

I don't have a definitive favorite "fanon" Touhou character, but I would have to pick Youmu.

It's funny to see a character who is pretty serious and even challenging in her game of origin be so cowardly and scared of everything as treated by the fans.

I mean, Youmu IS a scaredy cat in canon, hell she's even scared of ghost stories lol :cirnotan:

I find the love triangle that the community has built around Alice, Marisa and Patchouli very amusing.

I also enjoy the varying personality that Koishi has in between fandoms, in some parts she's this silly little girl and in some other works she's a psychotic murderer who commits mass genocide on a daily basis (The same thing with Flandre especially considering they're very similar)

Yeah, but sometimes I feel like the fans emphasize it a little bit more than it is in canon.

I'm sorry to tell you this but fanon isn't exaggerating in this case https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/touhou_sangetsusei_oriental_sacred_place_ch04#1

I never understood the part of Youmu being scared of ghosts. When she's with phantoms, she's completely fine but when she encounters a ghost she starts to freak out but in PoFV there's basically hundreds of spirits flying around and she's not freaking out.

There's a hazy borderline in Touhou between what is a 'spirit', what is a 'phantom' and whats a 'ghost'.

A few I managed to think of off the top of my head:

Junko acting as a mom to Clownpiece

Koakuma using guns to fight/having a more serious attitude

Marisa and all the various fan interpretations of her (nonstop kleptomaniac, playboy, opposite of a playboy, stoic, shonen protag, jealous of Reimu, etc.)

Evil galactic empire style Lunarians

Flandre and Koishi hanging out together sometimes

- Cold and cynical but terribly efficient Reimu chan
- Cool and reliable Meiling
- Smoking Mokou
- Nitori conveniently having just the thing or capable of making whatever is needed for any circumstance
- Strong legs Shizuha
- Medicine hanging around Eientei
- Either innocent or super smart Flandre
- PC 98 final bosses secretly having their own thing going on
- Okuu occasionally being brilliant

I've always thought of Mokou being depressed or at least pessimistic, much like I've kinda been IRL recently, but apparently that's not canon? So I'd say that's my favorite Touhou fanon interpretation. (The fact that she's canonically asocial still reminds me of myself, though.)
