As I've mentioned in the other thread in the earlier MoTK site, Burnyuho - composer whose work I originally covered out of curiosity and hope it becomes more widespread - has been working on a sequel to the first album I've updated about, that being Uncreatable Idea. The sequel, being called 東方菓香国　～ Sweet Smells and Foolish Evils. generally has much more positive vibe, but I actually approve that. Right now only the trial part of the album (Stages 1-3) has been released.

Really hoping that once again gilde will be able to translate profiles and such, but if not, I welcome anyone for translations of theme titles and what not, UI story and characters were Imo great.

Hi again! I'm back. :D
I also don't have any copy of The Artificial City (yet..... ;w;), so I can't give details on that, but I do have a summary for Sweet Smells and Foolish Evils! The 'full version' is planned for Niconico Dousai in summer 2021... which is a bit of a wait, but oh well. (;; ^^)

The plot is basically that everything in Gensokyo's been turned into sweets. Reimu's broom is a pretzel. The shrine gate is a candy sculpture. The path tiles are tarts, the shrine's made of biscuit bricks, the trees are chocolate with cherry blossom fondant... and don't get anyone started on the smell. After a couple stages of meandering around to investigate, the protagonists find and venture into a giant Nutcracker-esque Kingdom of Sweets.

Shrine Maiden Who's Not Sweet Towards Youkai - Reimu Hakurei
Magician Who's Not Sweet Towards Herself - Marisa Kirisame

Stage 1 - A Sweet World and a Sour Society ~ Overworked Employee (Sky over Gensokyo, presumed)
"Black shadows wriggling atop a strangely sweet world. Could they be connected to the incident?"

Boss: One of the Top 20% of Hardworking Ants, Nimuni Ookuro. A hard-working youkai ant with the ability to carry home sweets, who mistakes the protagonist for a giant ambulatory dessert. (If one applies the usual pattern of "stage 1 boss is small-scale foreshadowing of the game's overall theme", then 'ants crawling all over sweets' seems kind of ominous...?)

Stage 2 - Lab Animals' Paradise ~ Mouse Park (Forest of Magic, presumed)
"You mustn't let sugary sweets loose in the wild. Humans aren't the only things they'll attract."

Boss: The Bizarre Seven-Brained Mouse, Shiroko Nanazu. A genetically-engineered lab rat who passed into fantasy, and who has seven brains as a homage to The Nutcracker's seven-headed Mouse King. A local hero to outcast mice; she likewise mistakes the protagonist for a giant cake, and seems genuinely surprised to discover that they're human.

Stage 3 - Inedible Sweets ~ Sweetheart of Tin (Kingdom of Sweets - In front of castle gate)
"The towering walls of a candy castle. Just who is it that stands before the gate?"
("So that looks like the wall of a candy castle to you? Very well! Very well indeed!")

Boss: Fake Sweets Built of Tin, Moe Suzuki. Andersen's titular Steadfast Tin Soldier, now a human-hating doll youkai who's been assigned to protect "Her Highness" and friends by guarding the castle's gate. Though she's made of tin through and through, the protagonist seems convinced that she's made of candy; upon noticing this, Moe changes her attitude and lets them pass. The sudden gray-out in the stage title intro also seems to indicate that the castle isn't as saccharine as it looks...

Like UI, Burnyuho's described SSaFE as an exercise in making something that's still "Touhou-shaped" while being a big departure from official series fare (possibly even moreso than UI was :V). Each track is likewise conceptualized as a mix of Touhou-style and another distinct genre or instrument; so far it's 'walking pace' -> 'slap bass' -> 'conga' -> '8-bit' -> 'drum march' -> 'big band'. I'm really interested in seeing where the latter half goes.
(Speaking of the latter half... there's actually an entire disclaimer in the video's "manual" saying that story elements in the latter half might be particularly weird/horror-esque to some people?? Though nothing particularly dark ever happens "on-screen", as it were. Kind of sounds like a Hansel & Gretel thing to me.)

So a quick update. There apparently was a Touhou event as of late? I know that technically if not for COVID-19 we'd have Reitaisai, but it seems like now a lot of artists are just releasing their albums or stuff in general and for free, which is also a surprise. So here are two I've found:

As for my thoughts regarding SSaFE and what you mentioned

 I do find it kind of funny that for a project with acronym SSaFE, this one might just be giving a false sense of safety.
I had a feeling that Shizuku Moe was based on the Tin Soldier! Heck yeah, mostly because of the singular leg. Also I imagine the reason why Suzuku Nanazu is in the hospital clothes is because of the mentioned operation, but there's just something unsettling about that blood bag with AKR written on it... I don't know if I get this one.

 I do think this album has potential to outdo UI in few ways already. As you've mentioned, the author tries different things or touches different genres each time (random cowboy western insert) and it does make his stuff more memorable, at least to me. While "Can the Corpus Delicti be Proven?" is still my favorite song from Burnyuho, I feel like that might change soon. While it's a shame we'll have to wait another year for the rest of the tracks, I hope it delivers.

That would be this year's Nico Dousai, yeah! It's a regular JP fandom event where people post any sort of Touhou content they've made to Nicovideo. (Though it's a regular thing, I'm sure Reitaisai's cancellation certainly had an impact on this year's turnout... ;;^^)

Speaking of fan albums, here's some more I've become aware of lately!

"AKR" seems to be the acronym for a specific breed of albino lab mouse. It's more like she was bred for certain genes rather than operated upon, so I figure the clothes and bag are because her genotype also has anemia or the like?

Small status update on Sweet Smells and Foolish Evils: while Burnyuho has announced that the album will not be finished in time for this year's Nico Dousai as previously planned, they've released the album cover, as well as a preview for an album of their old MIDI synth music to be released on the 20th.

SSaFE-related tidbits I've clued in to as a result of seeing the silhouette:
  -...first off, the silhouette was already visible at the end of the demo video and i didn't even realize :V lol
  -Uncreatable Idea hid some foreshadowing in the form of its fake score counter and graze counter, which displayed the birth/death dates of Parcelseus and the year that penicillin was discovered, respectively. (While it doesn't exactly count as foreshadowing, the Extra Stage's counters likewise displayed the birth/death dates of a serial killer that the EX boss referenced.) In SSaFE's case... the score counters display the start and end dates (according to JP wikipedia) of the Opium War? That certainly explains the oddly-shaped things the silhouette character is holding.
  -(the above might also serve as an alternate explanation (besides "morbid content") as to why Burnyuho put so many "i swear i don't condone IRL illegal activity!!" disclaimers on the album imo; Japan's government has extremely conservative moral standards abt drug stuff lol

S1 boss: Mitsuki Yotsume, a moon jellyfish who spends her days aimlessly sleepwalking. (Or sleep-floating, rather.)
S2 boss: Mashu Tenhyou, a sea angel who's friends with Mitsuki.
S3 boss: Ayuka Choubane, a lantern fish (and kemari champion) who communicates via writing on a whiteboard.
S4 boss: Fue Kyourou, a sperm whale who uses her species' amazing diving capabilities to serve as a deep-sea tour guide.
S5 boss: Mirei Utsuhora, a giant moray pianist who reincarnated from a human girl. Used her "ability to seize one's heart/body and never let go" to open a portal to Gensokyo, and stole all the sound for her and the S6 boss's concert.
S6 boss: Shiwina (= Shiina) Umisedo, a coelacanth who reincarnated from a sickly human girl. Uses all of Gensokyo's sound to conduct an undersea concert that she and Mirei had promised to in their past life.

Thousand times thanks Gilde, while I did know about the release of both of said albums I didn't really had the time to post and cover about them. I'm really happy how composer behind TGoS has improved in the latter part, especially with extra boss theme. I'll try to cover both albums on the first post. I also wonder where did the second part of SSaFE go, but Burnyuho can take all the time they need imho.


Anyway, Khirio is back with yet another game-stylized album, similarly to Brilliant Works! For now, trial version up to stage 3.

The Garden of Sinners has been released with several updated tracks, 4 bonus remixes by guest artists, and a full set of characters (who were secretly in the making the whole time lol). Yay!

Story: There was a huge earthquake, and now it's raining buckets out of nowhere! What the heck,

S1 boss: Shirane Koshino, a youkai rock ptarmigan (ie. 雷鳥 / "thunder bird"). Despite being called a thunder bird, she only manipulates the *sound* of thunder, not the thunder itself. Popular at festivals.

S2 boss: Yuunagi Masumida, a rain-woman (w/ fox and courtesan motifs) living on the Youkai Mountain. Actually the cause of the rain incident; the Stage 3 boss recruited her to redistribute water from a particular location that's been flooded.

S3 boss: Chie Sengetsudou, a daruma tsukumogami who can bring paintings of youkai to life (much in the vein of famous woodblock artist Toriyama Sekien). Mainly sells friendly paintings that assist and protect their buyers. Fought inside a Youkai Mountain cave, where she's doing flood prevention work on orders from the Yama.

S4 boss: Satomi Iwakura, a deified boulder youkai (based on both the boulder that blocked Ama-no-Iwato and the god who hurled it aside). Serves as the gatekeeper for one of Heaven's main ports of entry above the Youkai Mountain.

S5 boss: Nadeshiko Nawi, the divine spirit of a Nawi clanswoman, who uses her ability to sense underground veins to issue directions to the keystone-placing Hinanawi. (Also partly based on Kushinada-hime.) Usually located in Gensokyo, but came up to Heaven to observe the situation there.

S6 boss: Inasa Oomuranokami, a.k.a. Takemikazuchi. A god of thunder, earthquakes and war, with legendary exploits that include suppressing an earthquake-causing catfish and subduing Takeminakata (ie. Kanako). After discovering that Heaven was invaded by a pack of beast youkai aiming to steal the weather-controlling Yata-no-Kagami, she caused an earthquake and raging storm in order to flood the Sanzu River, therby cutting off their escape route (Heaven → Netherworld → Sanzu River located below).

EX boss: Hiyori Chigayama, a drought-causing beast youkai (魃 / batsu) who temporarily becomes a drought-causing goddess (魃 / hiderigami) with the power of the Yata-no-Kagami. Invaded Heaven to steal the mirror, got trapped due to the Sanzu River's flooding, made her getaway while the protagonists fought Inasa, then uses her souped-up drought powers in the EX stage to cancel out the rainstorm that awaited her back in Gensokyo.

Sorry for my absence, but since I'm done with exams I've decided to update first post and of course I have countless of thanks for bringing up to my attention said albums Gilde.

While checking Booth I've also come across a free album that seems to mimic Trial OSTs for Touhou games, Ancient Power of Words, which you can check here: https://booth.pm/ja/items/3074000

I can't find story or characters outside of jewel case so for now I'll just add it to unfinished albums.

I've also added Elemental Quintet to rare albums. I actually had a digital copy of OST for this album... but I've realized I lost it after my apartment flooded and forgot to make a back up anywhere and I can't even find where and from whom I got said copy to begin with. Whether anyone wants to help with this or not, it's up to you, I just don't want it to become lost media.

Speaking of, I wanted to include both of Kuroha's Marine Benefit albums! I actually still have saved both of their OSTs with both early and newer versions of Migration to the conceptual Sea OST. However, the blogs you've made for these are now gone (thanks Tumblr) and I know how much work went into both writing and translating these so I wanted to know if any of that is still available somewhere, if you made back ups and if you want to share them again, I'd like to know

^Oh yeah, Ancient Power of Words! I think the full album's not finished yet, but there's some additional tracks on the composer's Soundcloud. The crossfade video with the characters is here; the plot is basically "a bunch of characters from ancient Chinese fiction have popped out of their scrolls and come to life!".

Stage 2 boss is Jia Baoyu, the stone-turned-human prince and principal character of Dream of the Red Chamber. In Touhou girl form, of course.
Stage 3 boss is the Red Hare, ie. the same horse as Sekito from IBP.

As for Elemental Quintet, I've actually got a physical copy of it, plus a couple of digital backups... and since I'm friends with the composer, I can probably just ask for a batch upload of it. (Might depend on if NRT's okay with sharing it openly, but I think the composer was working on remastered versions of the tracks a little while ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if NRT had something else planned for the tracks later on too. Yay)

I also have most if not all of the Marine Benefit spinoff tracks, so I can send you those within a day or two. And yeah, the Tumblr vanished into the ether somehow (; ^^) I still have all the text on my end, and last I checked, Kuroha's been reuploading most if not all of his blog-post stories after his Nicovideo blog likewise went down. So while I can't guarantee it'll be in the near future, I'd like to repost (and finish :P) the story translations on a more stable hosting service some time.

edit several days later: oops it's been a bit longer than 'a day or two' huh. I've uploaded all the MB spinoff tracks I have to a Google Drive, but right afterward, I actually found someone's archive with several more tracks (possibly YouTube/Nicovideo rips?) on a Chinese music-posting website! I'd like to make the Google Drive as complete as possible, so I'm going to add the remaining tracks and write little blurbs describing where they're each from.
