I had this idea about 3 years ago.  But today I have not been able to achieve it.  I lack too much preparation.  Now I want to make preparations in a simpler way.  Now I want to record the BGM and SE of these games first.  I can handle the recording of BGM.  But I cannot record the SE of the game.  So, how do I record the SE of the game?  I just now know that the SE file of touhou 2-5 is an .EFC file.  But I don't know how to deal with them.

In addition, I did not have great confidence to proceed and complete it, because there are too many things I need to prepare ...

there's a thread on old motk that shows how to delete the music from a PC98 game while keeping the sound effects, which would allow you to record them:

Thank you for your help! After a day of research, I found a way to play SE files directly. Here I will publish it:

First of all, they all need to install a specific driver to play. (mdrv2 or PMD) So we should run the corresponding driver to install the driver. (MDRV98.COM or PMD.COM)
Next, for TH1, we need to use EFP.EXE to load the SE file: ZIGOKU.MDE(It is placed in the main directory of the game). Then use "efp -Pnumber" to play the SE.Like this:

For TH2-5, we need to run ESET.COM to load the SE file. Use "FEFF number" to play SE. like this:

We can find the SE file here:
TH1 SE file:ZIGOKU.MDE(17 SE in total)[in the game DIR.]
TH2 SE file:HUUMA.EFC(18 SE in total)[東方封魔.録]
TH3 SE file:YUME.EFC(22 SE in total)[夢時空1.DAT]
TH4&TH5 SE file:MIKO.EFC(15 SE in total)[TH5's in 怪綺談1.DAT and 怪綺談2.DAT,they have the same SHA1.]

However, the SHA1 of the TH4 and TH5 SE files are different, and the MIKO.EFC file exists in both achive files of the TH4 game(東方幻想.郷 and 幻想郷ED.DAT),and their SHA1 is different.

mdrv2 system(include MDRV98.COM EFP.EXE):https://www.vector.co.jp/soft/dos/art/se018677.html
PMD(include PMD.COM,ESET.COM,FEFF.COM):https://www.vector.co.jp/soft/dos/art/se015682.html

Just so you guys know, I moved this thread to Touhou Projects since it deals with modifying the official games.
Also known as the Return of Eastern Wonderland and Danmakufu Woo Edition guy.

1ccs: SoEW (N), LLS (N), MS (N), EoSD (H), PCB (N), IN (H), PoFV (N, all shots), MoF (N), SA (N), UFO (N), TD (N), DDC (N), LoLK (N), HSiFS (L), WBaWC (N)
Extra 1ccs: All Windows mainline games, including PoFV.
Scoring: HSiFS Easy (PB: 1.1b)

But I also noticed that TH4 and TH5 also have Beep SE, and the SE file is MIKO.EFS. But playing it seems that you can't use PMD driver. So, does anyone know how to play it?
