Centipede is a wild ride! It still seems worth it to bomb midboss Mike, which unfortunately prevented the run from being NMNB. Lost a bunch of items after the st4 midboss but otherwise a near-perfect run. The only way to improve it further would be to start with Megumu's card and hope to buy Kanako's after st2.

Started with Centipede and Kanako, bought Elixir after stage 2. This feels like it should be close to the limit for no-mallet scoring, but other people have gotten 2.6b, so I shall have to look up how that was done.

...Turns out I was using the Centipede wrong. You're meant to milk the early-game bosses with only a little of your shot hitting them, to gain as much Centipede power as possible when starting each stage. I'm surprised it makes this much difference, but I'll have to try it and see!

Trying out the new strategy on Easy, and it's good. Death to Megumu's opener lost a ton of points (from power items and from loss of Centipede power) and it still beat my old PB. Got to keep trying to see what a no-miss run scores.

...Completed a no-miss run and it was a lower 1,073, even though there were no obvious places where I lost score. I got worse luck on the cards in shops, and I guess the lower spellcard bonuses over the course of the run add up to an equivalent loss? I feel like I might give up on scoring this game fairly soon, although it would be nice to at least hit 1b Easy / 2b Normal with all characters before I quit.

...Success with Marisa! Really bad shop luck, but got the 1b, which was all I wanted. You want to buy a life at some point for the extra 5m clear bonus, but ideally you want equipment early on. I bought the life in st2 and Dragon Pipe in st3 because there was nothing better!
