Hello! I apologize in advance if my first post being one where I ask for advice violates anything or if my question is redundant. Please let me know if so.

I am currently trying to translate Touhou Mystic Square into Arabic. I am aware that only editing text is probably far easier by using THCrap nut according to their wiki they do not support PC-98 games. I am going for the hack-ish method that won't work on real hardware (editing the font then rewriting hex) because I am not very experienced in these kinds of things. I looked through an old thread with lots of valuable information here: https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=19048.msg1368916#msg1368916

and used MysticTK to extract the data: http://lunarcast.net/mystictk.php

The thread mentioned editing the game's custom font (ZUN.COM) using yy-chr however it doesn't seem to display anything but jumbled pixels. I've tried other graphic editors and the same thing occurs. It seems to be common among the other pc-98 games. I assume this means the format is either compressed or not supported by the editors I used. I am asking if anyone has any experience with editing this file in particular and if I am missing something. I have not found any data regarding how it is compressed or seen any personal edits of it. I think it is an executable rather than a custom font, but I am not sure. The other .BFT files display this (https://i.ibb.co/pn652xZ/Screenshot-2024-08-08-223423.png) (https://ibb.co/LvDHS86)

I didn't edit them so nothing in-game has changed, but it looks like the dialog text uses the system font (FONT.ROM). I was editing the wrong half of it so I made a small change to test it.  (https://i.ibb.co/YQ09yDV/Screenshot-2024-08-08-224226.png) (https://ibb.co/02sNFBz)
What I can't find is the sidebar text (bombs, players) and the font used in the menu. In Touhou 2 these were stored in mikoft.bft

Unrelated, but I think there's an issue with MysticTk's repacking. The repacked .dat is ~5kb larger than the original which corrupts the score screen
